4 Injured 1 Dead in DUI Accident

Five people total were injured over this weekend in a deadly Texas DUI accident. At approximately 6:19 pm on Sunday, 28-year-old Matthew David Hickey lost control of his Toyota Tundra on the 300 block of Seguin Street in New Braunfels, Texas. Hickey was allegedly speeding and lost control of his vehicle and side swept one car and then hit a pick up truck head on. A 25 year old male passenger in Hickey’s vehicle was airlifted to the hospital for his injuries, one other was treated on the scene and the EMS took another victim to be treated at a nearby hospital. The 59 year old female driver of the Ford Ranger pick up truck was taken by ground to a nearby hospital; her passenger, 61-year old Petra Hernandez of New Braunfels, died in the hospital of her injuries.

Hickey was arrested and booked into the Comal County Sheriff’s Office but was released after posting his 25 thousand dollar bail and is currently facing sentencing for two counts of intoxicated assault and one count of intoxicated manslaughter. He faces up to twenty years in prison if he is convicted.
