Tragic Accident Claims Young Girls Life

It was like any other Monday morning for 11 year-old Christina Lopez as she sat at the corner of her street awaiting for the bus to arrive and take her to school.

Unlike any other day however, this would be the last time Christina would sit awaiting her ride.

Officials say at 8:00a.m. Christina Lopez was struck and killed by a big rig at the 2900th Block of 26th Street North. According to reports, there was no sidewalk where the incident occurred which may have forced Lopez to partially sit on the pavement unprotected from motorists.

The driver of the Big Rig, who coincidentally is the Lopez family’s next door neighbor, did not appear to be intoxicated or unable to operate the vehicle and claims he just simply didn’t see the young girl sitting there.

While the Lopez family is seeking charges to be filed against the driver, officials are still investigating if perhaps the lighting from the sun could have played a role in the accident.

In any case, the incident stands as a tragic and unfortunate incident for the community and our condolences go out to everyone effected.
